PRE-ENROLMENT and VISA
Pre-enrolment
Before starting
-
The pre-enrolment procedure is the first step to request your Study visa.
Therefore, it is mandatory for non-EU students residing outside of Italy ONLY.
This procedure must be completed after accepting an Admission offer to a degree programme at the University of Padua.
Different pre-enrolment procedures may be necessary for Italian-taught Bachelor’s degree programmes and other degree programmes with a national-based selection (i.e. Medicine and Surgery). The details are specified in the relevant Call for admission.
-
No, please use the profile you already created.
-
No, the pre-enrolment procedure is mandatory for non-EU students residing outside of Italy ONLY, as it is the first step to obtain a Study visa.
EU citizens and non-EU students already legally residing in Italy do not need a visa, so they are exempted from this procedure.
-
It depends on your specific status.
For example, if you are enrolled in another Italian university and wish to change degree programme by joining the University of Padua, you can directly apply for Residence Permit renewal.
-
Yes, as you must pre-enrol to the Academic Year to which you have been admitted.
Remember to use the same profile and avoid registering again to the Universitaly platform. Simply select the correct Academic Year.
If the Academic Year you have been admitted to is not visible yet, it means that the procedure is not open yet. In this case, wait for the Admissions and Welcome Unit to provide you with further instructions.
-
You just need to pre-enrol for the correct Academic Year (i.e. the one indicated in your Admission Letter).
The pre-enrolment request you have submitted for the wrong Academic Year will be disregarded without the need to delete it.
-
No, you must pre-enrol ONLY to the Academic Year to which you have been admitted. You can check which Academic Year you should pre-enrol to on your Admission letter.
If the Academic Year you have been admitted to is not yet visible, it means that the procedure is not open yet. In this case, wait for the Admissions and Welcome Unit to provide you with further instructions.
Submitting the pre-enrolment
-
Check out the video tutorial that explains the procedure to register and pre-enrol in the Universitaly platform.
-
You need to upload ONLY two documents:
- A passport size picture of your face: this picture has to show only your face, which has to be clearly visible, and the background has to be white,
- A coloured scan of the first page (i.e. the one containing your picture and personal information) of your currently valid passport.
Do NOT upload any other document in your pre-enrolment request.
-
No, you cannot.
Please wait for the issuance of your renewed passport before submitting your pre-enrolment.
-
You must select the embassy or consulate where you know for certain you are going to apply for your Study visa
If you have reasonable grounds to believe that you can obtain the visa in the country you are currently residing, then you can start the process there. Please always make sure to check with the competent embassy/consulate which is the best option for you.
-
During the registration process, once you fill all required information the website will automatically calculate a temporary Italian tax code, therefore you can either insert this one or just leave the section blank, as it is not a compulsory requirement at pre-enrolment stage.
The Admissions and Welcome Unit will apply for your official Italian tax code on your behalf and will send you the relevant certificate via email.
The temporary tax code generated automatically by the Universitaly platform may be different from the one provided by the University. Do not worry as this will not affect the procedure.
-
You do NOT need to fill it in. Please leave the ID field empty.
-
Using the dropdown menu, select the option: “I want to enrol in a study course” as reason for the visa application.
-
This selection will NOT influence the language of instructions of your studies: it is simply a tool to help you search the degree programme you have been admitted to from the dropdown menu.
-
Please note that some English-taught degree programmes have to be selected through their Italian equivalent as follows:
- Applied Sciences to Cultural Heritage, Materials and Sites → Archaeological Sciences
- Communication strategies → Strategies in Communication
- Complex and Data Driven Chemistry → Chemistry
- Earth Dynamics → Environmental Geology and Earth dynamics
- English Studies → European and American Languages and Literatures
- Management Engineering → Engineering and Management
- Mobility Studies → Historical Sciences
Once you select the Italian equivalent, please select the correct Course Curriculum in English.
-
Select the curriculum/study track that you wish to attend.
-
If you need any help with your pre-enrolment, a technical Helpdesk is available in your application area.
You can also find more information on the pre-enrolment by watching our video tutorial.
After submission
-
Due to the high number of pre-enrolment requests, the validation process may require some time.
The Admissions and Welcome Unit checks the pre-enrolment requests in chronological order. Do not contact the office to solicit a quicker validation.
There is no action required from your side at this stage. Make sure to check your email and your Universitaly profile so as not to miss the notification informing you that your pre-enrolment request has been validated or that you have a request to correct/integrate wrong/missing information.
-
If you have received a request for integration, it means that there are some missing or wrong data and/or documents.
In the communication you have received, you are also notified about which details are missing or wrong and you are given the instructions on how to edit the data. Please check carefully the communication we sent you and act upon it in a timely manner. Once the requested correction has been made, please remember to re-submit your pre-enrolment request.
-
If your pre-enrolment has not been validated yet, you can change the embassy/consulate by contacting the Universitaly technical assistance.
If your pre-enrolment has already been validated, please send a request to the Admissions and Welcome Unit in order to modify the embassy/consulate selection.
-
If your pre-enrolment has not been validated yet, you can edit the data and the documents uploaded by contacting the Universitaly technical assistance.
If your pre-enrolment has already been validated, the embassy/consulate has received the copy of your passport that you uploaded during the pre-enrolment procedure. This will not affect your Visa application.
Please refer directly to the embassy/consulate authorities for all the details concerning the visa application and, only if they specifically ask you to change your passport in the pre-enrolment form, please contact the Admissions and Welcome Unit.
-
If your pre-enrolment has not been validated yet, you can contact the Universitaly technical assistance by clicking here to request the necessary correction.
Should there still be mistakes, you will be contacted by the Admissions and Welcome Unit informing you on how to properly edit your data.
-
No, the pre-enrolment validation does not mean that you will automatically receive a visa.
This is simply the first step to request your Study visa.
You need to verify directly with the Italian embassy/consulate you selected in your pre-enrolment application the correct procedure and necessary documents to apply for your Study visa.
Please note that Italian embassies/consulates are the only institutions that can issue a visa.
-
After validation of your pre-enrolment request by the Admissions and Welcome Unit, you can download the summary by entering your profile on Universitaly, viewing your application and selecting the option “Summary”.
The Summary is NOT available before validation.
Check also our video tutorial for further help.
-
Once your pre-enrolment has been validated, you need to personally contact the Italian embassy/consulate you selected in your pre-enrolment application to verify the correct procedure to apply for your Study visa.
The University of Padua will not contact the embassy/consulate on your behalf.
-
If your pre-enrolment has already been validated, the University of Padua must first reject your pre-enrolment and then you will be able to fill in another pre-enrolment at the other university.
In this case, please contact the Admissions and Welcome Unit to request your pre-enrolment cancellation.
Visa Request
-
Visa issuing is of exclusive competence of embassies and consulates.
Should these authorities require additional information concerning the admission and enrolment procedures, they will contact us directly.
We will be pleased to providing them with the necessary information. -
Non-EU students residing outside of Italy need a Study visa to travel to Italy and study at the University of Padua.
You can apply for a visa only after:
- Applying to a degree programme at the University of Padua,
- Receiving an admission offer,
- Accepting the admission offer,
- Submitting the pre-enrolment request,
- Receiving the pre-enrolment validation.
Once you have completed all these steps, you can contact the Italian embassy/consulate that you indicated in your pre-enrolment application and begin the visa application process.
Please be reminded that visa issuing is of exclusive competence of embassies and consulates.
-
According to the Ministerial guidelines, the following documents are generally required for the Study visa application:
- Pre-enrolment summary (check the question “How can I receive my pre-enrolment summary” or our video tutorial),
- Entry visa application form,
- 4 recent passport-size pictures of your face,
- Proof of admission. The University of Padua will provide you with a formal Admission Letter which proves your admission to a degree programme. A copy will also be uploaded by the Admissions and Welcome Unit in the pre-enrolment;
- Proof of adequate means of subsistence and sum for repatriation (proved also through a round-trip ticket),
- Proof of a suitable accommodation in Italy,
- Adequate health insurance cover for medical expenses and hospital stays,
- Other documents, depending on the country.
Always check with the Italian embassy/consulate for the precise list of required documents.
-
If you are a merit-based scholarship winner (Padua International Excellence scholarship, Departmental scholarship, fee-waiver), while validating your pre-enrolment, the University of Padua will specifically indicate that you benefit from such economic benefits with all the relevant details.
Please note that this does NOT imply that you will be issued a visa nor that the scholarship will be considered as proof of adequate means of subsistence and/or sum for repatriation by the Italian embassy/consulate.
You may be required to produce further documentation, therefore please check with the competent embassy/consulate.
-
As the subscription to the National Healthcare System can be made exclusively once you arrive in Italy, this cannot be used as an adequate proof of health insurance.
You must possess an adequate insurance that covers for medical expenses and hospital stays. A medical insurance for a Schengen visa must meet the following criteria:
- medical coverage of at least euro 30.000,00,
- coverage of emergency medical evacuation and repatriation of remains.
Further requirements may be asked by the embassy/consulate, therefore please refer exclusively to them.
-
You can appeal against the embassy/consulate’s decision within seven days from the visa refusal. When the visa request is denied, you are usually also provided with the refusal letter giving you the necessary instructions on how to proceed with the appeal.
-
Immediately inform the Admissions and Welcome Unit. Your enrolment will be restored and you can continue your studies. Then, we invite you to reach Padua as soon as possible.
