-
No, it is not possible to join during the spring semester.
Our University only has one intake per year which is always in October.
-
Calls for applications do not differ in terms of requirements.
The main difference concerns some of the merit-based scholarships (i.e. Padua International Excellence scholarships, Departmental scholarships, 100 full tuition fee-waivers), which may be assigned to international students who apply to English-taught programmes during Call One.
All programmes will open for a Call One.
Some programmes may also open for a Call Two depending on availability of seats.
An additional call for EU and equated students may open in the Summer.Limited access degree programmes usually have only one call for applications: different calls may apply depending on the students’ citizenship, residence (EU and equated and NON-EU residing in Italy vs. NON-EU residing outside Italy) and entry qualification. This specification can be found on the relevant call for application.
-
Yes, it does. Kindly check the procedures available on our website: www.unipd.it/en/how-apply.
If you entry title belongs to the Italian education system, you have to apply following the same procedures as Italian students.
If you have obtained your entry title outside of the Italian education system, you have to follow the procedures for international students.
For further information please refer to Annex 2 of the Ministerial guidelines.
For more details, see: FAQ – Application Platform.
-
The entry title is the education title that allows you to apply and access one of the Degree Programmes offered by the University of Padua.
More specifically:
- • if you want to study a Bachelor’s degree, your entry title will be your upper secondary education diploma (e.g. High School Diploma);
- • if you want to study a Master’s degree, your entry title will be your Bachelor’s degree.
Please note that the entry title for Single cycle degree programmes is the upper secondary education diploma.
-
Yes, the application process depends on your:
- • Citizenship,
- • Country of residence,
- • Entry title (see question above).
With regards to citizenship and country of residence, we distinguish two main categories:
- • EU citizens and equated (i.e. Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Republic of San Marino and Vatican City) and NON-EU citizens already residing in Italy (with a valid residence permit),
- • NON-EU citizens residing outside of Italy.
As per your entry title, refer to the questions above.
For more details, see: FAQ – Application Platform.
-
By law, you must apply with your EU citizenship.
-
Degree programmes with open access do not have a maximum number of places available for enrolment. Please note that admission to open access degree programmes is NOT automatic: applying to one of these programmes will NOT guarantee admission.
Only students deemed eligible by the Academic Committee can be admitted and eventually enrol in the programme.Limited access degree programmes have a maximum number of places available for enrolment. This number varies according to each degree programme. For such reason, a call for applications is published, detailing the number of places available (further specifying those available for EU and equated and for NON-EU students residing outside Italy) and the admission procedure.
A specific score is assigned to each applicant and is used to determine a ranking list. Only students with a good enough placement in the ranking list, as per the call for applications , can be admitted and can eventually enrol. The ranking list may also be drawn according to the results of an entry test.
Students who are not admitted are placed in a waiting list: in case of withdrawals, the places left available are assigned to the next eligible candidates in the waiting list. (Please refer to the specific call for applications for the full procedure). -
The call for applications (or admission notice) is a PDF document published on the University’s website detailing:
- • Number of places available,
- • Application procedures,
- • Entry test – if required (i.e. TOLC),
- • Deadlines,
- • Enrolment requirements.
The call for applications is published each year for the following degree programmes:
- • Single cycle degree programmes taught in Italian (open and limited access),
- • Single cycle degree programmes taught in English (Medicine and Surgery),
- • Limited access Master’s degree programmes taught in Italian and in English.
No call for applications is published for open access Master’s degree programmes (both Italian and English-taught).
-
It depends on the programme you are applying for.
Check the application platform to find out more about upcoming call for applications for each of our degree programmes.
Generally, these are the applications dates for open access degree programmes:
- • Call One – From 2 November until 2 February,
- • Call Two – From 2 March until 2 May,
- • Call Three – From 2 June until 2 August for EU and equated students and NON-EU students residing in Italy.
Please note that Call Two and Call Three may open only depending on the number availability of seats.
Limited access degree programmes have different dates:
- • Call One (limited access) – from 7 January until 7 March.
Applicants must always double check the relevant deadlines on the application platform an on the university website.
-
No, we can’t.
Your profile and entry title are exclusively assessed by a specific Academic Committee, who will evaluate in detail your transcript of records and previous studies and/or work experience (among other criteria). Before applying, verify the specific requirements of the programmes you are interested in, which are indicated on the application platform and in the relevant call for applications if available.
-
The number varies according to the degree programme.
You can find this information on our website, on the application platform or in the call for applications.
For more details, see the dedicated FAQ: “What is the difference between limited or open access degree programmes?”
Medicine and Surgery
-
Due to reform to the programme structure currently being discussed at a national level, we have no information on the Single cycle degree programmes in Medicina e Chirurgia (Italian-taught) and in Medicine and Surgery (English-taught).
We kindly ask you to wait until the reforms are completed before further enquiring about these programmes.
In the meantime, we kindly ask you not to consider any rumour and only refer to official UNIPD sources.
We invite you to register to our application platform to receive updates on this topic and news about our university.

The call for applications for the Single cycle degree programme in Medicine and Surgery held in English usually opens around June/July. The call for applications, which contains all the necessary information regarding the application procedure, entry requirements, deadlines, number of places available and quota for NON-EU citizens residing abroad, is normally published in July.
The programme has a limited number of places available, and admission is based on the IMAT entry test.
Registrations to the IMAT test usually open in June/July in the Universitaly website.
The IMAT test is usually held in September/October and the ranking list is published by the end of October.
-
The IMAT (International Medical Admission Test) is the only test accepted for studying Medicine and Surgery in English in Italy.
The IMAT is part of the Cambridge assessment system, you can either come to Padua to sit the test OR take the test in any accredited centre. Please check the list of accredited centres in the call for application published yearly in our website.
Registrations usually open in June/July and you must register on Universitaly. After registering on the platform, you must register and pay for the test. The IMAT test is usually held in September/October and the results are published by the end of October.
-
No, an English language certificate is not required.
-
If you already study Medicine at another University, you can apply for the Single cycle degree programme in Medicine and Surgery in Padua for years subsequent to the first.
Medicine and Surgery is a limited access degree programme: admission to a year subsequent to the first can be granted on the basis of prior recognition of exams taken abroad.
The transfer IS NOT automatic as it depends on the following:
- 1. Number of places available:
This varies every year but availability is normally very limited. Please check the relevant call for applications to verify availability. By way of example for the Academic year 2024/25 we had only 2 places available for applications to the fourth year for the English-taught degree programme. - 2. Credits recognition request:
The first step is to submit the application for the recognition of previous exams by following a dedicated procedure, which usually opens from mid-June to mid-July by following the instructions given here: www.unipd.it/en/credit-recognition. You will then receive an answer from the Academic Committee, stating the exams that can be recognised and the year of study to which you are eligible for admission. - 3. Admission test to years subsequent to the first:
Ultimately, if the number of admissible candidates exceeds the number of available seats, an admission test has to be sat: the relevant information will be included in the dedicated call for applications and it is usually held at the beginning of October. Selected candidates are required to proceed by following the instructions to complete their enrolment.
