BEFORE APPLYING
Intakes and Call for applications
-
We only have one intake per year. The Academic Year starts in October. Please note that it is not possible to join our university outside of this intake.
-
In terms of entry requirements, calls for applications do not differ.
The main difference concerns some of the merit-based scholarships (i.e. Padua International Excellence scholarship, Departmental scholarships, 100 full tuition fee-waivers), which may be assigned to international students who apply to English-held programmes during the first call for application only.
Some programmes open for two calls for applications, while others open only for one call. An additional call for EU students may open in Summer.
Limited access programmes usually have only one call for admission: different calls may apply depending on the students’ citizenship, residence and entry qualification (EU and equated and non-EU residing in Italy vs. non-EU residing outside Italy). This specification can be found on the relevant Call for admission.
-
Yes, it does. Kindly check the procedures available on our website: www.unipd.it/en/how-apply
The main difference is whether the entry title belongs to the Italian schooling system or international schooling system. For further information please refer to the Annex 2 of the Ministerial guidelines.
For more details, see: FAQ – Application Platform.
-
Yes, the application procedures depend on your:
- Citizenship,
- Residence,
- Entry title.
With regards to citizenship and residence, we distinguish 2 main categories:
- EU citizens and equated (i.e. Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Republic of San Marino and Vatican City) and non-EU citizens already residing in Italy (with a valid residence permit),
- Non-EU citizens residing outside of Italy.
As for your entry title, the main difference is whether the entry title belongs to the Italian schooling system or international schooling system. For further information please refer to the Annex 2 of the Ministerial guidelines.
For more details, see: FAQ – Application Platform.
-
By law, you must apply with your EU citizenship.
-
Degree programmes with an Unlimited access do not have a maximum number of places available for enrolment. All students deemed eligible following the assessment of the entry requirements by the Academic Committee can enrol in the programme. A quota is always set for non-EU students (residing outside of Italy) and varies from programme to programme.
Limited access programmes have a maximum number of places available for enrolment. This number varies according to the degree programme. For such reason a Call for admission is published, detailing the number of places available (specifying further those available for EU and equated and for non-EU students residing outside Italy) and the admission procedure. A specific score is assigned to each applicant and used to determine a ranking list. Only students placed conveniently in the ranking list are admitted and can enrol. The ranking list may also be drawn according to the results of an entry test. Those who are not admitted are placed in a waiting list: in case of withdrawals, the places left available are assigned to the next eligible candidate of the waiting list. Please refer to the specific Call for admission for the full procedure.
-
The Call for admission (or Admission notice) is a PDF document published oAn the University’s website which details:
- Number of places available,
- Application procedures,
- Entry test – if required (i.e. TOLC, IMAT),
- Deadlines,
- Enrolment requirements,
- …
It is published each year and for the following degree programmes:
- Bachelor’s degree programmes taught in Italian (Unlimited and limited access),
- Single Cycle degree programmes taught in Italian (Unlimited and limited access),
- Single Cycle degree programmes taught in English (Medicine and Surgery),
- Limited access Master’s degree programmes taught in Italian and English.
No Call for admission is published for Unlimited access Master’s degree programmes (both Italian- and English-taught).
-
It depends on the programme you are applying for.
As a general indication, these are the applications dates for Unlimited access degree programmes:
- From 2nd November until 2nd February,
- From 2nd March until 2nd May for non-EU students residing outside Italy,
- From 2nd June until 2nd August for EU and equated students and non-EU students residing in Italy.
Limited access degree programmes usually open from 7th January until 7th March.
Applicants must always double check the relevant deadlines on the application platform, on the website or other available resources.
-
No, we can’t. Assessment of a students’ background and titles is conducted exclusively by a specific Academic Committee, who will evaluate in detail your transcript of records and previous studies and/or work experience (among other criteria). Before applying, students must verify the specific requirements, which are indicated on the application platform in each degree programme’s web factsheet and in the relevant Call for admission when available.
-
The number varies according to the degree programme.
You can find this information on our website, on the application platform or in the Call for admission.
For more details, see the dedicated FAQ: “What is the difference between Limited or Unlimited access programmes?”
Medicine and Surgery
-
The call for applications for the Single-cycle degree programme in Medicine and Surgery held in English usually opens around June/July. The Call for admission, which contains all the necessary information regarding the application procedure, entry requirements, deadlines, number of places available and quota for non-EU citizens residing abroad, is normally published in July.
The programme has a limited number of places available, and admission is based on the IMAT entry test.
Registrations to the IMAT test usually open in June/July in the Universitaly website.
The IMAT test is usually held in September/October and the ranking list is published by the end of October.
-
The IMAT (International Medical Admission Test) is the only test accepted for studying Medicine and Surgery in English in Italy.
The IMAT is part of the Cambridge assessment system, you can either come to Padua to sit the test OR take the test in any accredited centre. Please check the list of accredited centres in the Call for application published yearly in our website.
Registrations usually open in June/July and you must register on Universitaly. After registering on the platform, you must register and pay for the test. The IMAT test is usually held in September/October and the results are published by the end of October.
-
No, the English certificate is not required.
-
If you already study Medicine at another University, you can apply for the Single Cycle degree programme in Medicine and Surgery in Padua for years subsequent to the first.
Medicine and Surgery is a Limited access degree programme: admission to a year subsequent to the first can be granted on the basis of prior recognition of exams taken abroad.
The transfer IS NOT automatic as it depends on the following:
- Number of places available:
This varies every year but availability is normally very limited. Please check the relevant Call for Admissions to verify availability. By way of example for the academic year 2022/23 we had only 1 place available for admission to the fourth year for the English-taught degree programme. - Credits Recognition Request:
The first step is to submit the application for the recognition of previous exams by following a dedicated procedure, which usually opens from mid-June to mid-July by following the instructions given here: www.unipd.it/en/credit-recognition. You will then receive an answer from the Academic Committee, stating the exams that can be recognised and the year of study to which you are eligible for admission. Remember to send only apostilled programs. - Admission Test to Years Subsequent to the First:
Ultimately, if the number of admissible candidates overcome the number of available seats an admission test has to be sat: the relative information will be included in the call for application and it is usually held at the beginning of October. Selected candidates will proceed by following the instructions to complete their enrolment.
